Pier 70

Recently renovated, Pier 70’s abandoned buildings provide haunting reminders of San Francisco’s past. These photographs were made in 2012, before the cleanup began, in the historic core of the Pier 70 restoration project. Built in the 1880s, the buildings housed machine shops, massive ship dry-docks, and offices; steelworkers and shipbuilders occupied the nearby neighborhood.
